hospital newborn photography columbus ohio
Sometimes I get so caught up in obsessing over whether hospital rooms will have optimal window light, that I forget how newborns look perfect no matter where they are. They could be sleeping in the darkest room, yet somehow they still glow with light. Those first 48 hours are my favorite. I guess that's why hospital newborn photography sessions get the nickname, "Fresh 48." Because it's a time that is so new and raw and beautiful. At the end of this session, I just kept clicking my shutter and I'm pretty sure this couple was staring at me thinking, "She's still taking pictures?! She already got that angle.. multiple times." But I tend to get lost in the moment. I just want to capture every detail and soak it all up. I love hospital newborn sessions. Probably a little too much.
You never know how a toddler is going to react to a new member of the family... but this hospital newborn session literally melted my heart. The entire time, big brother was constantly wanting to hold, kiss, snuggle, nuzzle and love on his new baby brother. I've photographed a lot of families and newborns, but I've never seen a love like that before. Something tells me these two brothers are going be the best of friends.
I felt so bad when I heard that Dad wasn't going to be part of the hospital newborn photo session because he was sick with the flu. Recovering from birth + a newborn + sick husband + toddler... life is SO not fair sometimes! But regardless of everything, they were such troopers! The morning light was beautiful coming into the room of the Riverside Women's Center. Baby Logan was perfect and just slept soundly the whole time. Big brother wasn't so sure about him, but loved sharing his "trash cans" (little coffee creamer cups) and showing him all the trucks out the window. One day they are going to be the cutest red-headed brothers!
The first thing I thought when I saw this baby was, "WOW. She has the most amazing hair!!" haha I'm sure she is going to hear that a lot over the next few months. It was a calm and quiet morning with this sweet girl and her mom at Mount Carmel St Ann's Hospital. I love being a newborn photographer!
I would drive to Springfield, Ohio for every single Fresh 48 hospital newborn photography session just for those big beautiful windows! Seriously. That light in the Springfield Regional Medical Center Maternity Wing was like photographer heaven. And sweet baby Jack gave me the best newborn yawns, one-eyed glares, and loved snuggling his mom and dad. I wanted so badly to kiss those toes... he was just perfect.
